New crew of bronzed life saver to keep beach safe
SURF NOTES: Main Beach should now be an even safer place to swim with all candidates in the latest Bronze Medallion squad being successful in passing their assessment last week.
The candidates were Todd Bennett, Chelsea Bridges, Lyteeka Currie, Pat Day, Tash Hancock, Courtney Lovegrove, Josh Morris, Dan Newman, Troy Redman, and Greg Todhunter. Congratulations to all, particularly because the conditions proved to be quite challenging at times.
Thanks to Bill Onslow and probationary trainer Kirsten O'Connor and to the assessors Al Schofield and Kim Morgans for the time put in to assist the squad.
The Surf Rescue/Radio Operators squad was also successful in their assessment. The candidates were Annabel Bindon, Will Earle, Sophie Jillett, Amelia Kroehnert, Georgia Kroehnert and Carissa Miltiadou.
These young members need to be especially recognised for achieving two awards in the short time since junior activities started in October. Many thanks are extended to their trainers Matt Saunders and Kim Morgans and co-ordinator Andrea Miltiadou as well as to the assessors Bill Onslow, Jill Ennever and Geoff Horsey.
Congratulations to our recent Nipper of the Week awardees - U/7s Joseph Sorrensen and Mia Durrington and U/8 Lilly Woods - we hope you enjoy your Sassafras vouchers.
Sunday morning nipper activities on Main Beach will break over the holidays and resume with the Rotary Fun Day on January 14.
Help is still needed for Yamba Surf Club's Ocean Swims Day which will be held this season on Sunday, January 7. There are lots of jobs including water safety, manning the barbecue or setting up the beach. If you are able to assist please contact the club office or Jim Dougherty.
For anyone wishing to swim on the day, all details and entries are available online at www.oceanswims.com.
