New flashing lights for Clarence schools

NEW school zone flashing lights will be installed at 44 schools in Clarence and Richmond valleys in the coming weeks.

Clarence Nationals MP, Chris Gulaptis said Roads and Maritime Services would install new flashing lights at a number of schools this month as part of the Government's commitment to install flashing lights at every school in NSW by December 2015.

Mr Gulaptis welcomed the installation of flashing lights onsite at Maclean High School this morning with School Principal, Robert Perl & student representatives, Josie Ryan (Year 9) and Jesse Dean (Year 11).

"The safety of students is paramount and for that reason new flashing lights will be installed near 44 schools to improve visibility of school zones during times when pedestrian activity around schools is highest," Mr Gulaptis said.

"The 40km/h school zone speed limit operates from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm on gazetted school days.

"The roll out of flashing lights is expected to start on Wednesday 20 May and be completed before the end of May weather permitting," Mr Gulaptis said.

Motorists are reminded to slow down, obey the 40km/h school zone speed limit and be alert for pedestrians near the school at all times.
