New movie shop a feature for Maclean

AFTER losing its only video store in a devastating fire last year, a new one has risen from the ashes. But no, it's not called Phoenix Video.

Maclean Movie Central opened its doors for business on Friday to grateful Maclean residents.

The store is jointly owned by Trevor and Josephine Kapeen and John Hough and his partner Kat Burson.

John and Josephine are siblings, which makes the venture a family affair.

On Friday, Kat and young Trevor Kapeen were staffing the front counter and enjoying their first day of trade.

Kat said she had previously worked in a video store so she knew what to expect with the business.

“It seemed like such a good opportunity,” Kat said.

“Keeping jobs in the local area and providing jobs for the family was really important.

“We're going to try to stock something for everybody and keep prices as low as possible.”

Kat's partner John said they would soon have an in-store computer called 'movie finder', which would allow customers to search the store's entire collection of DVDs and games.

“We also have a machine called the 'disk doctor',” John said.

“This machine cleans and repairs DVDs.”

Maclean Movie Central will open seven days a week, five from 10am till 9pm, and 10am till 10pm on Friday and Saturdays.
