New Magpies recruits to go on show
LOWER Clarence Magpies face their first test of the club's centenary year in a trial against Macksville Sea Eagles this Saturday.
The Magpies will be taking a playing squad of 23 to Bellingen Park where the 4.45pm match will be a curtain raiser to the Bellingen Magpies versus Army Thunder match at 6pm as part of the Matthew Locke Charity Day, named after the former Bellingen player who was killed in military action in 2007.
First grade coach Nathan Pettit said he was pleased with the side's progress during the preseason and reported up to 40 players at some training sessions.
"We have some new players so this Saturday will be a good chance to have a look at them," Pettit said.
"Numbers have been really good throughout the whole three grades, the forward packs are looking good and the re-signing of Rob Howard is really good news."
Ryan Binge, who has returned from Grafton Ghosts, is first grade and club captain for 2015.
Mikee Randall has returned from South Grafton Rebels to coach reserve grade while two more former Rebels, Aaron Martin and Birrigan Young, have also come across.
The bus leaves Maclean Bowling Club at 1pm.
TICKETS go on sale for the 100 Years of Rugby League on the Lower Clarence Reunion on Saturday, June 6 this Monday for $40 each at Maclean Bowling Club and Home Hardware Yamba and Maclean.
The club is looking for any memorabilia such as photos and jerseys to be displayed on the night and returned thereafter. Email lowerclarence- email@example.com.
