A Nimbin man has died following a single vehicle crash

A 67-YEAR-OLD man from Nimbin has died following a single vehicle crash south of Murwillumbah yesterday afternoon.

Emergency Services were called to the scene at Kyogle Rd, Uki at about 5.30pm.

Police were told the driver lost control of the car, a VW Golf, on a bend and mounted the kerb before travelling down an embankment and landing upside down in a creek.

Witnesses helped to free the two occupants: A 72-year-old female passenger and the male driver who was unconscious when he was pulled from the vehicle.

He had been trapped in the vehicle underwater.

Police and witnesses commenced CPR on the man, but he died at the scene.

The woman was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Tweed Heads Hospital for observation.

Tweed Byron police inspector Mick Dempsey said they were travelling to their home at Nimbin at the time.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
