No action on servo eyesore

AFTER what was supposed to be a short-term closure, the United Service Station in South Grafton shows no signs re-opening any time soon and has created an eyesore on the Grafton stretch of the Pacific Highway.

Clarence Valley Council deputy general manager Des Schroder says that while the building was a bit of an eyesore, the council had no plans to force United to do anything about it.

“We don’t normally get involved with private construction projects unless they are creating a public nuisance,” he said.

“At this stage, the site in South Grafton isn’t fitting those criteria so we have no great reason to go charging in there.”

The South Grafton petrol station was closed last December and at the time a United spokesperson insisted the closure would be temporary.
