Nominate your top cop

NOTHING brought home the true risk police officers take each day they turn up for work more than the shooting of Tamworth officer David Rixon.

Putting your life on the line for public safety is no job for the faint-hearted and that's why, at least every now and again, the work of the police should be recognised.

Each year the Coffs Clarence Local Area Command hosts its police officer of the year awards and now is the time for you to recognise a local member of the force who's stood out to you.

Perhaps it was a kind word at a car crash or support after being victim of a crime, by filling out the form attached below you can ensure the officer in question gets the praise he deserves.

This year marks 150 years of policing in NSW and there will be a ball held to celebrate in Coffs Harbour in September with some of the money raised going towards the Grafton PCYC application.

Grafton duty officer Inspector Murray Gillett said the chance to vote for officer of the year allowed the community the opportunity to thank police for their work.

"We do receive letters of appreciation but we've had a number of past winners who are extremely highly regarded officers who have been outstanding in their fields," he said.
