Norco ice-cream scoops 21 awards at prestigious show
LOCAL dairy supplier Norco has scooped many awards for the second year running at the Sydney Royal Cheese and Dairy Produce Show, taking out a total of 21 awards for its ice-cream.
Norco took home twice the number of awards compared to last year and its Coles-branded Turkish delight ice-cream was crowned “premium ice-cream or gelato” category champion.
The dairy farmer co-operative received another gold medal in the same category for its popular Coles-branded peanut butter ice-cream, along with seven gold and eight silver medals across other ice-cream categories.
Norco chief executive officer Brett Kelly attributed the co-op’s continued success of its Coles-branded ice-cream to the innovative recipes and quality milk sourced from dairy farmers in the Northern Rivers.
“These awards again show the successful collaboration between Norco and Coles – two great Australian brands working together,” he said.
Coles state general for NSW, Thinus Keeve, said it was fantastic to see Norco and Coles-branded ice-cream receive this recognition at such prestigious awards.
“Norco is a fantastic supplier for Coles and these awards demonstrate how we work together to develop great locally-produced ice-cream which our customers love,” he said.
The success story follows on from 2014 when Norco signed a major five-year contract to supply 60 million litres of milk a year to Coles stores in northern New South Wales and southern Queensland.
Norco, which celebrates its 121st birthday this year, employs 220 people at its Lismore site, most of whom are local people living in a 30km radius.
The factory runs seven days a week and operates 24 hours a day.
As a result, Norco controls the quality process from the farm to the factory floor.
