Our beaches better than the USA
SHE’S lived in a place renowned worldwide for its beaches and surfing culture, but one-time California resident Melissa Wearing knows where the most beautiful coastline really exists.
And it’s not far from her own backyard.
Melissa, of Cowper, lived in California for six years alongside her then husband.
“They go on about California and the beaches,” she said, “but they’re much better here”.
Her favourites to visit on the North Coast are the picturesque Angourie and the untouched Brooms Head.
Although the beaches didn’t measure up, Melissa was pleasantly surprised with the rest of the US. “I didn’t expect to like it and I didn’t expect to like Americans,” she said.
“But the people were really nice; I loved it.”
Now a mother to four-year-old daughter Mckenna, Melissa, who was born and grew up in the Clarence Valley, said it was ‘a great place to raise kids’.
“It might not have the nightlife of other places, but it has a lot of other things to offer,” she said.
