North Coast Junior Cricket action heats up

THE Clarence Valley under-12s beat the storms by rushing to victory against Coffs Harbour on Sunday.

The game played at Fisher Park Synthetic in Grafton was round two of the North Coast Cricket Council Inter-District competition.

Batting first, Coffs Harbour managed 128 with Jordan Gallagher (3 for 21 off 6 overs), Brad Chapman (2 for 18 off 6) and Ethan Munro (2 for 15 off 8) preventing the innings from getting away from Clarence.

The target proved manageable, but was no walk in the park for Clarence, who passed the total six down in the 28th over.

Opening batsman Ben Shipman's innings of 33 not out was crucial, his steady hand literally steering the ship as wickets fell away around him.

The under-16 match being played was cut short by afternoon storms.

Coffs reached 136 before being dismissed in the 46th over with Jonty Gardner (40) and Aiden Statham (37) leading the way.

Mitch Kroehnert (3 for 22 off 8.3) and Jesse Powell (3 for 20 off 6) both had a good day with the ball for Clarence Valley while Naomi McDonald also chimed in with two wickets.

They had a positive start to the run chase with Naomi McDonald not out 25 when rain stopped play at 4 for 102 and Clarence needing another 35 runs for victory.

Lower Clarence also played round two representative fixtures, against Nambucca-Bellingen.

In the under-12s Lower Clarence were dismissed for 104 before Nambucca cruised to an eight-wicket victory.

The under-14 match was abandoned after Nambucca made 177 and Lower Clarence were 6 for 61 in reply.

In the under-16 match Lower Clarence was bundled out for 89 before Nambucca passed the total just one wicket down with Brodie Bartlett top scoring on 38.
