Northside club shines on big day for netball
NETBALL: The Grafton Netball Association courts on Bacon St were awash with colour on Saturday with hundreds packing the venue for grand final day.
But there was one colour which stood head and shoulders above the rest: the lime green of Northside.
The club won all but one of its grand finals, culminating in a dominant display from the Northside Thunder in the top grade decider against GHS Jaguars.
The Thunder, led by a crisp second-half shooting display from veteran Kim Blinman and a strong defensive effort, were too much for a depleted Jaguars who fought valiantly when reduced to six players in the second half.
Thunder ran out 40-15 winners with a scoreline that did not truly reflect the heart shown by Jaguars.
Northside kicked the day off in crushing fashion with a 13-6 win to its Cutie Pies in the 9/10 Years decider, as well as a 19-18 win for the Epics over clubmates Strikers in the 11/12 Yrs final.
Northside Destructions had to fight doggedly to overcome a much-improved Tucabia Charms outfit, 23-21, in the D Grade decider.
In B Grade the pace of Grafton Redmen was too much for the Rhinos Rebels to overcome, but the Rhinos' Rascals side was too good for Northside Assassins in the C Grade final.
S&S Topshelf, led by player of the final Hayley Perriott, defeated GHS Gerryhatricks in the A2 grand final 27-20.
