Readers still teased by Fifty Shades of Grey novels

IT SEEMS readers are still fascinated by the tantalising tale the book Fifty Shades of Grey offers.

The book has been turned into a film of the same name and now the trailer has been released, Mackay people still want their slice of the erotic novel.

At the Lifeline Bookfest this month, all of the donated copies of the novels were sold, Lifeline volunteer Lyn Lewis said.

"We had quite a lot for sale," she said.

"We had boxes of them.

"The set of three were all sold, they were very popular."

She said the books were sold at the sale last year as well.

"I think they were $8 and people got them for $4," Ms Lewis said.

"We probably had about 40 or 50 copies this year."

Karen Gampe of Collins Booksellers at Sydney St Markets said demand for the book hadn't been as high as it once was.

When it was first released they found it hard to keep up with the demand, she said.

"We do still sell the books but it has slowed down a great deal," Ms Gampe said.

She said that when the movie is released on Valentine's Day next year, there may be resurgence in sales of the book, which is part of a trilogy.

"There'll be some interest in it but not the same as when it initially came out," Ms Gampe said.

In 2012, Ms Gampe said they had at least "15-20 inquires a day" about the erotica series.

The movie's trailer, which stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, was released on Thursday at midnight, much to the delight of fans.

It sent Twitter into overdrive and has been viewed almost 8 million times online on YouTube.
