NSW, VIC confirms four more deaths, national death toll 39

 

NSW and Victoria has confirmed four more COVID-19 deaths.

Victorian Health Minister Jenny Mikakos announced the news on Twitter.

"Yesterday a man in his 50s died in hospital and a woman in her 80s died at home," she said. "My thoughts are with their families."

There are now 1158 confirmed cases in the Victoria, an increase of 23 from yesterday.

While in NSW two men, aged 86 and 85, both died yesterday.

NSW Health has provided more information on the state's latest deaths.

An 86-year-old man who died in Liverpool Hospital yesterday was a resident of the Opal Care Bankstown aged care facility.

There are now five cases connected with the nursing home - two residents and three staff.

The other victim, an 85-year-old man, also died at Liverpool Hospital. He was a close contact of another confirmed case.

There are now 40 people in intensive care units across the state, with 22 of those requiring ventilators.

The total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Australia is now approaching 6000.
