NSW Upper House slams Abbott's broken Gonski promise

NSW Parliament's upper house has unanimously denounced the Abbott Government's broken promise to fund nation-wide Gonski education reforms for six years.

A motion to condemn the Federal Government for failing to deliver the final two years of funding was supported by all sides of the upper house's political fray on Wednesday.

Greens MP John Kaye, who moved the motion, said the unanimous support surprised him.

"Even Prime Minister Abbott's state Liberal and Nationals colleagues are prepared to publicly condemn his actions on Gonski," Dr Kaye said.

"The Greens welcome the solidarity showed today by all parties in the NSW Upper House in calling on the Abbott government to commit to funding the Commonwealth's share of the Gonski money."
