Nurofen claims to be put to test

THE consumer watchdog has taken the drug company behind Nurofen to court, alleging it has misled consumers about its range of products.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission began legal action against Reckitt Benckiser in the Federal Court this week.

It has alleged the various Nurofen products, promoted as targeting pain from periods to back aches and migraine, are identical.

The case will challenge Nurofen promotion and packaging that has claimed the different products were formulated differently for each type of pain, despite containing the same active ingredient, and approved for a variety of pain.
