Occhilupo swaps waves for moves

TWEED surfing legend Mark Occhilupo will show off a different set of moves on Channel Seven's Dancing with the Stars.

The cast for the popular series was announced by the network on Monday.

Mr Occhilupo will join model Lara Bingle, Australian Idol winner Damien Leith, news presenter Samantha Armytage and Home and Away actor Dan Ewing along with a host of other celebrities in a battle to take out the coveted mirror ball trophy.

Mr Occhilupo has been paired with professional dancer Jade Brand for his stint on the reality TV show.

Known as Occy, Mr Occhilupo began his professional surfing career on the World Championship Tour (WCT) at the age of 17.

In the mid-90s, after a long hiatus, he made a comeback, finally realising his dream to become world champion in 1999.

Although retired from surfing, he still lives, breathes and promotes surfing full-time and competes as a wildcard in various Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) events.

This is the first series of Dancing with the Stars to feature a husband and wife, with cricket star Nathan Bracken and Haley Bracken going head-to-head on the dance floor.

Each contestant on the dancing series will raise money for a charity of their choice, but it has not been announced which charity Mr Occhilupo will support.

Dancing with the Stars returns soon to Channel Seven.
