Off-field altercation at Ghosts footy game investigated
POLICE are investigating an off-field incident which occurred during half-time in the Group 2 Rugby League First Grade qualifying final played at Geoff King Motors Sporting Complex in Coffs Harbour on Sunday.
"We are investigating an off-field incident between a 24-year-old man from South Grafton, who is an injured player from the South Grafton Rebels team and was a spectator at the match, and a 20-year-old man from Grafton who was a player for the Grafton Ghosts," Coffs Clarence Detective Inspector Darren Jameson said.
"The incident being investigated is an alleged assault that occurred between the changerooms and the playing field last weekend.
"The investigation is ongoing and Group 2 Rugby League has been advised."
Coffs Harbour Comets defeated Grafton Ghosts 33 to 22 in the first grade match on Sunday. Coffs Harbour now plays South Grafton at McKittrick Park in the major semi-final this Saturday. Grafton hosts Nambucca Heads at McGuren Field in the minor semi-final on Saturday.
