Offroad caves safari shows visitors Fiji's cannibal history
FIJI'S popular Off Road Caves Safari started in 2012, complementing the Sigatoka River Safari.
Off Road Caves Safari takes passengers in custom-made Land Rovers through Sigatoka's interior to Naihehe Cave - Fiji's largest cave system - where they learn about its cannibal history.
The tour gives passengers a firsthand experience of the caves - entering via the "pregnancy gap" to the main chamber and seeing a cannibal oven, ritual platform and sacred priest chamber.
After exploring the caves, there is a barbecue lunch and a swim in a refreshing river with the locals before beginning the homeward journey.
This, too, is a memorable experience because guides stop along the way, allowing all guests the opportunity to meet the locals.
Off-Road Cave Safari operates Monday to Saturday with tours departing at 8.30am and 1pm.
