Olympians get smart for London

SOME thought they would be great for lawn bowls, others perfect for any number of English private schools.

But in the end the majority opinion seemed to be that Australia's Olympic uniforms, unveiled at Sydney's Fashion Week, were very, well ... Australian.

Especially the dunlop volleys.

Most importantly the athletes seemd happy with them, not surprising given some had input to the design.

After initially admitting the uniforms only needed a trilby hat to make the wearers look like they were off to boarding school, kayaker Rachel Lovell said she would be more than happy to wear hers into the Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony.

"I actually think it works. It says they're Australian, they look smart," Lovell said.

"They're certainly not lairy or hideous, and much better than the ones from Beijing."

Lovell, who will compete in the K4 500m event in London, even said she would be happy to wear the jacket on its own to functions afterwards.
