One in 10 Australian children miss school once a week

ONE in 10 Australian children miss school once a week and one in 30 go hungry almost every day, a major study has found.

The Australian Child Wellbeing Project report, based on surveys of or interviews with 5000 children, was released yesterday.

It found one in six had been bullied and that children cited supportive families as their most important resource.

Associate Professor Gerry Redmond, the lead researcher, said one young person in five reported going to school or bed hungry at times and were more likely to miss school often.
