Online date leads to kidnapping

A MAN has been charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and other charges following the discovery of a woman in a Melbourne back yard where a grave had been dug.

Police allege a 29-year-old Footscray woman met a 35-year-old Endeavour Hills man on an online dating service and they agreed to meet in the Melbourne CBD on Tuesday.

It's alleged she was driven to a home in Pakenham, in Melbourne's south-east, where the man demanded cash from her and her family in Nepal.

She was allegedly held hostage for two days before police raided the home yesterday.

They allege they found the woman and the man in the back yard. Police have not divulged how they became aware of her plight.
