OPINION: Feeling hot, hot ... very hot
OKAY, who's had enough of summer now?
According to the temperature reading it was 53°C inside my car yesterday as I headed out to the Grafton Racecourse. Yikes!
Who in their right mind would be out in this heat (unless you were rostered on to work)?
Well, it turns out there were a few music fans out there willing to brave the record-breaking conditions and no inconsiderate heatwave was going to put a stop to their fun.
And while cancelling the horse racing yesterday was the humane thing to do, the hearty Clarence dwellers were fending for themselves under the shade of the coolabah trees with the added enticement of a cold beverage while they kicked back and sweated through the record-breaking temps.
Chef hats off to those guys firing up the barbecues but that's what you do when there's a community event to deliver.
The best part of it all was the good humour in which people took the sweltering temps at the weekend.
Whether they were out in the thick of it at the Grafton racecourse, or hanging out in the shopping centre, or at the pool, beach or river trying to make the most of the weekend, residents made the most of their weekend.
We all know it gets hot in the Clarence but this record breaker tested the mettle of most of us.
Let's hope we don't see another weekend like it again any time soon.
