Orchid show is a blooming success

FLOWER power is in full bloom at Grafton Shoppingworld with the Grafton District Orchid Society's Autumn Show adding a colourful display to the facility.

More than 200 of the finest specimens produced by growers from Grafton, Woolgoolga,

Maclean and Gulmarrad have been entered.

Their beauty is attracting a growing number of admirers.

Secretary of the Grafton District Orchid Society, Joy Jones, said not only the public was impressed by the allure of the display.

“When the judges arrived on Wednesday night they were very impressed with the strength of the competition and the variety of orchids entered,” she said.

“Award-winning plants are judged as having a good floral shape, lovely texture of colour, and clean unmarked foliage.

“Specimens on display at our autumn show include cattleyas, dendrobiums, and phalaenopsis.

“I think their wide range of colours and different shapes make the orchid one of the world's most beautiful flowers.”

Orchids produced by local growers are available for sale at the autumn show's display counter. Prices start from $8.

The show ends today at 2pm.
