Osieck backs in veteran keeper

FOOTBALL: Socceroos coach Holger Osieck is adamant Mark Schwarzer is still Australia's top goalkeeper, despite his omission from next month's friendlies against France and Canada.

Mitch Langerak (Borussia Dortmund) and Mat Ryan (Club Brugge), were the preferred 'keepers to the veteran.

"He's (Schwarzer) our number one goalkeeper. But if I keep playing him, what about the others we may need?" Osieck said.

That was not the only change after Australia's embarrassing 6-0 loss to Brazil earlier this month.

Jackson Irvine, 20, received his first call-up after starring for the Young Socceroos at the U20 World Cup in Turkey in June.

Luzern's Oliver Bozanic got his second call-up, and Mathew Leckie, Nikita Rukavytsya, David Carney and Jason Davidson also return.

Dario Vidosic was named for the first time since his move from Adelaide United to FC Sion in Switzerland.

Tim Cahill and Luke Wilkshire were included after they missed the Brazil match due to injury.

The Socceroos will play France in Paris on October 12 and Canada in London on October 16.
