OUR SAY: Great ideas for Clarence
THANKS to everyone who put forward suggestions when we asked on Facebook a few days ago: "The Clarence Valley needs _________"
The response was enthusiastic and wide ranging, and makes for interesting reading.
WATER-FRONT AND CENTRE: We asked our Facebook friends what the Clarence Valley needs
There is plenty of food for thought in the list of answers.
Had we asked the same question 12 months ago, and if we asked it in another year, the results probably wouldn't differ much.
It's fair to think there is always a level of unhappiness with government, so if you asked at any time, "replace the council" would probably be a popular comment.
And its seems inevitable that "Kmart" will also feature highly. For those that did suggest we need the department store, we have asked Kmart before and they say they have no plans to open in Grafton. You'll be waiting a long time for that one.
Among the most popular themes was development of the riverfront as an entertainment area, whether it be for shopping, eating, entertainment and even a water theme park.
For anyone living along the Clarence that makes plenty of sense. It is an amazing asset and we should want to do more with it.
But I have two questions - who pays for it and what happens in floods?
Come up with those answers and we are onto something special.
