UPDATE: $5m worth of drugs and firearms seized from bikies

UPDATE 6am: OVER 2000 cannabis plants, commercial quantities of MDMA, and other drugs with an estimated potential street value of over $5 million were seized yesterday during search warrants in the Northern Rivers.

Strike Force Areas, an operation targeting drug supply offences linked to the Lone Wolf outlaw motorcycle gang, uncovered the crop during one of several search warrants executed yesterday in the Richmond Local Area Command.

Sophisticated set up

Over 900 plants were found growing in a sophisticated indoor hydroponic set-up, along with 50 kilograms of dried cannabis leaf and cash on a property at Jiggi, about 20km north west of Lismore.

A 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Lismore Police Station.

He was charged with cultivate large commercial quantity prohibited plant (x2), deal with proceeds of crime, supply commercial quantity prohibited drug, and use electricity without authority.

The man was refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court today.

Details of charges

Eight others charged during yesterday's operation include:

• Two large hydroponic cannabis set-ups with 57 cannabis plants, $13,000 cash and an electronic stun device were located at a home in Georgica. A 65-year-old man was arrested and charged with large commercial cultivation of cannabis, possessing prohibited drugs (x2), supplying indictable quantity of cannabis, goods in custody, possessing ammunition without licence, and two counts of possessing a prohibited weapon. He was refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court today.
• 18 cannabis plants and a number of ecstasy pills were seized at a home in East Lismore. A 22-year-old man was arrested in that regard and charged with possessing prohibited drugs (x2), cultivating a prohibited plant, possessing a prohibited plant; and possessing a prohibited drug. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Lismore Local Court on November 21.
• Items connected with a commercial drug supply, cannabis and OMCG paraphernalia were seized at a home in North Lismore. A man and a woman, both aged 24, have been charged with numerous counts of ongoing commercial supply of MDMA (ecstasy). They have both been bail refused to appear at Lismore Local Court on November 8.
• A hydroponic cannabis set-up with eight plants, knuckle dusters, radio equipment and OMCG paraphernalia were seized at a home in South Lismore. A 35-year-old man has been charged with enhanced cultivation of cannabis, possessing a prohibited plant, possessing a prohibited drug, and possessing a prohibited weapon. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Lismore Local Court on November 21.
• A hydroponic cannabis set-up with eight plants, steroids and OMCG paraphernalia were seized at a home at Rous Mill. A 33-year-old man has been charged with enhanced cultivation of cannabis, supplying a prohibited drug, supplying cannabis, and possessing a prohibited drug. He has been refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court today.
• Six cannabis plants and dried cannabis were seized at a home in Goonellabah. A 45-year-old man has been issued with a future court attendance Notice for cultivating a prohibited plant and possessing a prohibited drug. He is expected to appear at Lismore Local Court on December 5.
• A commercial quantity hydroponic cannabis set-up was located at a property in Jiggi. A 30-year-old man was charged with large commercial cultivating a prohibited plant (x2), dealing with proceeds of crime and using electricity without authority. He was refused bail to appear at Lismore Local Court today.

Police also issued firearms prohibition orders and consorting warnings to nine members of the Lone Wolf outlawed motorcycle gang,  including one man whose firearms licence was suspended and registered firearms seized.

UPDATE, 3.21pm: CANDID footage of today's extensive drug raids on the Northern Rivers has been released by Richmond Local Area Command.

 

UPDATE, 3.10pm: LOCAL police have revealed more details about today's extensive drug busts across the Northern Rivers.

Richmond Crime Manager, Detective Chief Inspector Cameron Lindsay addressed local media earlier this afternoon.

Det Insp Lindsay specifically discussed one of the bigger raids at Jiggi, where more than $2 million worth of cannabis has been obtained by police.

The operation is on-going across the region.

 

ORIGINAL STORY: POLICE arrested eight people and seized large quantities of the illicit drugs cannabis and ecstasy across the Northern Rivers today.

The multiple arrests and seizures were the culmination of Strike Force Areas, a major operation targeting drug supply offences linked to the Lone Wolf outlaw motorcycle gang across the region.

Richmond and Tweed/Byron Local Area Command officers executed simultaneous search warrants at properties in North Lismore, South Lismore, East Lismore, Goonellabah, Rous Mill, Jiggi, and Georgica at 6am today following extensive enquiries.

Local officers were assisted by the Gangs Squad's Strike Force Raptor, the Public Order and Riot Squad, the Police Dog Unit and Tweed/Byron Local Area Command.

Strike Force Areas was established by the Richmond Local Area Command Drug Unit in May to investigate suspected supply of commercial quantities of MDMA, also known as ecstasy, and indoor cultivation of cannabis.

Police also issued firearms prohibition orders and consorting warnings to nine members of the Lone Wolf OMCG, including one man whose firearms licence was suspended and registered firearms seized.

Today's operation is on-going, but initial results include:

  • 17 cannabis plants and ecstasy pills were seized at a home in East Lismore. A 23-year-old man was arrested in that regard.
  • Items connected with commercial drug supply, cannabis and OMCG paraphernalia were seized at a home in North Lismore. A man and a woman, both aged 24, have been charged with on-going commercial supply of MDMA (ecstasy).
  • A hydroponic cannabis set-up with eight plants, knuckle dusters, radio equipment and OMCG paraphernalia were seized at a home in South Lismore. A 35-year-old man has been charged with enhanced cultivation of cannabis.
  • A hydroponic cannabis set-up with eight plants, steroids and OMCG paraphernalia were seized at a home at Rous Mill. A 33-year-old man has been charged with enhanced cultivation of cannabis.
  • OMCG paraphernalia, an illegal bar set-up and items used in the sale of alcohol were seized at a property in North Lismore.
  • Six cannabis plants and dried cannabis were seized at a home in Goonellabah. A 45-year-old man has been issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice for cultivate prohibited plant and possess prohibited drug.
  • A commercial quantity hydroponic cannabis set-up has been located at a property in Jiggi. A 30-year-old man has been arrested in that regard.
