Outstanding juniors hold court with tennis stars

TWO Grafton tennis juniors enjoyed a brush with the big time at the Medibank International tournament in Sydney.

Brittany Huxley and Jack Chard were chosen to escort two of the biggest names in tennis onto centre court at the tournament.

Huxley escorted Russian star Dinara Safina into court for the women's singles final, while Chard accompanied Serbian Novak Djokovic, the defending Australian Open champion, out on to court for the men's singles semi-final.

They were selected for this rare honour after winning the girls' and boys' 10-and-under categories respectively at the Medibank Age Championships in 2008. Apart from their encounters with Safina and Djokovic, Huxley and Chard were also at Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre to compete in the annual Medibank Challenge, a teams event for under-10s and 12s held to coincide with the Medibank International Sydney.

The Medibank Challenge features 32 of the most talented girls and boys from metropolitan Sydney and country NSW.

Brittany was thrilled with the opportunity to walk Safina onto the court.

“Walking out on Ken Rosewall Arena was amazing and it was awesome meeting the players in person,” Huxley said.

Chard was equally thrilled.

“I was excited to have the opportunity to be an official escort during the Medibank International,” Chard said.
