South Grafton High wins DEX Shield for third year straight
SOUTH Grafton High retained the 2015 Daily Examiner Shield defeating Maclean High 25 to 20 at McKittrick Park on Wednesday night.
Five-eighth Nick McGrady was the star of the show and was deservedly named Player of the Final. He scored the winning try in the corner 12 minutes from full time, helped his teammates remain composed and even slotted a field goal for good measure.
None were prouder to go out a winner than captain Mason Graham - who they call "The Veteran".
"We said in the warm up that this is our last Daily Examiner Shield for a few of us Year 12 boys who have been here for three and in my case four years," Graham said.
"We just wanted to take the win out. For me I've never lost a Daily Examiner Shield all the way through from Year 7 to Year 12.
Earlier in the evening South Grafton High burst out of the blocks against Maclean High in the Under-14 DEX Shield final. Damien Duroux's length of the field effort in the opening minutes set the tone as South took the game 42 to 6 with Caleb Barker named Player of the Final.
SOUTH GRAFTON HS 25 (Nick McGrady 2, Brandon Thornton, Mason Graham tries; McGrady 4 goals; McGrady field goal) defeated MACLEAN HS 20 (Nicholas Plummer, Daine Laurie, Vincent Williams, Izaac Daley tries; Zac Clarke-Nagle, Jacob Cameron-Clarke goals).
