Pacific Hwy link scores $1.4 billion in Budget

THE NSW Government will spend $1.4 billion on the Pacific Hwy in 2015-16 to continue final works on the link between Woolgoolga and Ballina.

The project is expected to be completed in 2020, bringing four-lane traffic from Hexham, near Newcastle, to the Queensland border.

Roads Minister Duncan Gay announced a $7.5 billion in this year's budget for road, maritime and freight works across the state.

The figure included $4.1 billion for regional NSW, as well as $1.7 billion for the WestConnex motorway in Sydney.

Plans to build a second Clarence River bridge in Grafton are continuing, with $28 million to have been spent in the year to July.

Only $2 million has been allocated for planning the $177 million project this year.

The Coffs Harbour bypass received the same $2 million allocation, with $52.7 million spent on the $200 million project so far.

Mr Gay said councils would share in $326 million to "reverse decades of under-investment and neglect of council-owned roads and bridges".
