Page writes new chapter for Coutts with unrelenting spell

CRCA CRICKET: While saddened his efforts marked an end to his former club's finals hopes, Coutts Crossing pace weapon Zac Page has given his Premier League side something to smile about.

The club's leading wicket taker has bowled Coutts Crossing into the Premier League finals, snaring a handy 4-28 at McKittrick Park on Saturday, including the dangerous South Services top-order batsmen who were out to punish the Coutts attack.

While Page said there had not been much in the deck for the bowlers, subtle variations of pace proved effective.

"With their batting line-up it could have been a tough day for us," Page said.

"I just wanted to do my job and I managed to start us on the right foot by getting into their top order.

"It was pretty hard going to be honest. There was little movement off the deck and hardly any swing for the bowlers. The couple that I did get to jag back off the seam were by accident anyway.

"But once I realised the change of pace was working for me it became a bit easier."

Coutts Crossing captain Luke Cox praised his bowlers, including Page and young all-rounder Eli Fahey who put in another good performance.

"The deck was a good one to bat on but the boys kept changing up their pace a fair bit and made it hard for the Souths boys to really get away," Cox said.

"Credit to our batting last week as well. 290-odd is tough enough to chase as it is but especially in a must-win game."
