Yamba pair tops the regional women's bowls
YAMBA pair Robyn McPherson and Lynette Olsson are off to the state finals after conquering the bowling greens of Kingscliff.
The Clarence District champions faced off against the top pairs from Tweed-Byron, Mid North Coast and Northern Rivers districts in the NSW Women's Bowls Region One Championship Playoffs.
With McPherson as team skip, the Yamba duo challenged Sawtell's Dianne Tree (skip) and Wendy Polley in the final. Team McPherson took the lead from the beginning and forged ahead to win comfortably.
Kingscliff Bowling Club in the Tweed-Byron District hosted finals matches all this week for singles, pairs, triples, fours and senior fours.
The singles final was a tough game between Yamba's Cathryn Aitchison and Park Beach's Marie Owen. Owen was able to overtake Cathryn and take control of the game to win the championship.
Contestants in the triples had to work hard in the semis to gain a berth in the final. Maclean's Maureen Grimes, Sally Squires and Sandra Ferro (skip) faced off against Alstonville's Doreen Farmer, Joy Lowein and Greta Orchard (skip) in a great challenge for dominance, with Team Orchard taking home the title.
The open fours final was a great game between Judy Monks (skip), Isla Donkin, Joyce Stirton (sub) and Janice Brown from Park Beach, and Thelma Fredericks (skip), Patricia Baskerville, Maria Hellyar and Nola Fairful from South Lismore. Team Monks held the challengers at bay to win.
Beverley Montague (skip), Sue Downs, Claire Hoder and Gail Marczan (Evans Head) took the senior fours title after doing battle with Annette Williams (skip), Josephine Pugh, Dawn Lawson and Dawn Ripley (Grafton).
