Parents stunned by 'senseless' death of Aussie baseballer

THE family of the Melbourne man murdered in a random drive-by shooting in the United States says it will deal with his "senseless" death "the best we can".

Chris Lane, 22, was out jogging in the small city of Duncan, Oklahoma - where he attended East Central University on a baseball scholarship - when he was shot and left to die by the side of a road.

Three teenagers, aged 15, 16 and 17, stand accused of his murder and if found guilty could face the death penalty.

A distraught Peter Lane spoke to reporters in Melbourne about his son's death.

"There's not going to be any good come out of this because it was just so senseless," Mr Lane said.

"There wasn't anything he did or could have done. He was an athlete going for a jog like he would do five or six days a week in terms of his training schedule.

"It's happened, it's wrong and we just try and deal with it the best we can."
