UPDATE: Girl remains stable after she was struck by a car

9.30AM: A little girl remains in a stable condition at the Queensland Children's Hospital after she was hit by a car Saturday night.

At 8.21pm, paramedics were called to a private residence at West Rockhampton to reports of a low speed "vehicle and pedestrian" incident.

The incident was described by a police spokesperson as a "tragic accident in the yard of a home where a child has been injured".

Paramedics treated the toddler for head and abdominal injuries, and she was transported to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition. Critical care paramedics were on board for transport.

She was latter flown to the Queensland Children's Hospital, Brisbane, where her condition improved and she remains stable.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Children's Hospital said her condition had improved and she was now in a  stable condition.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Kevin Mawdsley of Rockhampton police said the forensic crash unit attended the scene and conducted an examination, but was still in the early stages of investigation.
