Passion for helping others

BETWEEN supporting, informing and even entertaining it, there's not much this year's Clarence Valley Citizen of the Year, Vois Bancroft, has not done for the community of Lawrence.

In more than 30 years in the community, Mrs Bancroft has been a founding member of the Over 50s Group, secretary of the Lawrence Historical Society for 13 years, a member of the School Ladies Club and Lawrence Hall Committee, an organist at the Uniting Church and Telecross volunteer.

She has been a major contributor in keeping the Valley informed of events in Lawrence with her column in the Coastal Views newspaper. She has also helped The Daily Examiner with its talking newspaper for 17 years.

Mrs Bancroft has also been musical director of the Temperamentals musical group that performs all over the Valley.

Mrs Bancroft received her award last night.

"The calibre of all nominees in each of the four categories was very strong, which made it so very difficult to choose a winner." the council's Australia Day advocate, Councillor Sue Hughes, said.
