Patient travel scheme to get boost

THE NSW Coalition's promise to boost the NSW Patient Travel Scheme by 50% has been welcomed by Member for Clarence Steve Cansdell.

The scheme, which provides a travel and accommodation allowance to people having to travel long distances to receive treatment for medical conditions and diseases, would receive an extra $28 million over four years under a Coalition government.

Mr Cansdell said this would bring NSW into line with states such as Western Australia, which provided 16 cents per kilometre travelled and up to $60 per night for accommodation.

He also said a Coalition government would review administration fees which are charged and the eligibility criteria for the scheme.
