Perfect day for Russell and Samarra to wed

IT TOOK 15 years for Russell Keedle to top the Valentine's Day present he gave to his girlfriend in Year 7 Samarra Essex.

Back then, he put a necklace on her.

This year, he's going to put a ring on it.

The South Grafton couple are tying the knot on the traditional day of love, and while the wedding wasn't always planned to be on the day, everything has come up roses.

"We originally were planning on the wedding to be in November, but we just ran out of time with the planning," Samarra said.

"But after that we both saw that Valentine's Day was on a Saturday and thought why not?

"And when we started we thought we'd have a lots of trouble because the date was so popular, but it's come together quite well."

And while the wedding will be a casual affair, Samarra says there's a little bit of romantic in her beau.

"It is a bit cute when he does do the romantic thing every now and then," she said.

"But don't say anything about that," Russell adds with a smile.

And as for the significance of the date, Samarra thinks there may have been an ulterior motive.

"I guess now he'll never forget Valentine's Day or our anniversary," she laughs.
