Locals ready to shave for a cure
THE BATTLE against cancer has become personal for a Seelands woman and up to 10 other locals who will have their head shaved for a cure next month.
Terri Quiring has been surrounded by inspiring people doing their bit to fight the scourge of the disease, and decided it was time for her to become involved.
"My best friend's mum was going through chemo last year and lost all her hair, which was a big thing for her," Ms Quiring said.
"My hair's long enough to be made into a wig, so I decided to have it shaved."
Another inspiration was nine-year-old Victoria Price, whose grandmother has been battling cancer.
"She's organised to have her head shaved and was doing such a great job, I asked her if I could join her," Ms Quiring said.
Since then the pair have been inundated with offers to join them.
"At the moment I think there's 10 more people coming along for the shave."
Ms Quiring said the group now had a target of $5000 to raise from a raffle, which will be drawn at a big fun day at the Seelands Hall.
The fun day, on Saturday, September 5, will culminate with the big shave of all the participants.
Raffle tickets will be available at Plantation Organic Bakery, South Grafton, De Luxe Hair Beauty and Massage, and at the fun day.
"We would really like to thank all the sponsors for all their help," Ms Quiring said.
