Dozens of irreplaceable cars spanning motorsport champion Peter Brock's entire driving career only narrowly escaped the wrath of Tropical Cyclone Marcia.

But historic clothing, pictures, paperwork and other memorabilia weren't as lucky when the storm cell slammed into Yeppoon's Champions Brock Experience.

Owners Sandy and Peter Champion were close friends of the King of the Mountain, one of Australia's greatest sporting figures.

They were among thousands across the state dealing with damage to homes and businesses on Monday.

Mr Champion estimated the damage bill to the museum at $60,000-$80,000 before taking the merchandise into account.
