Pets come clean to help Miriam
THE only thing that will pull Coutts Crossing woman Miriam Tasker through her battle with kidney failure is her determination and the support she receives from her friends.
Yesterday Craig's Bird Place and Pet Shop and You Love Em We Scrub Em mobile dog wash put on a fundraiser to help cover Ms Tasker's costs when she goes in Brisbane to receive kidney transplant.
Craig's Bird Place and Pet Shop co-owner Linda Craig said she had known Ms Tasker for a long time.
"Miriam has been a customer for ever," Mrs Craig said. "We know ourselves how hard it is to find money when it's needed."
Mrs Craig's granddaughter suffers from a marrow disease.
"We pay it forward when we can," she said.
People started lining up at 8.20am to get there pets washed.
Mrs Craig said the workload could get even heavier as they were expecting someone to bring in seven mastiffs.
Ms Tasker said it was great to have so much community support.
"It's wonderful to have all this support," she said.
You Love Em We Scrub Em donated all takings for the day and Craig's Bird Place and Pet Shop donated 20% of its daily takings.
Meanwhile, Ms Tasker's partner Campbell Lynne is doing tests to get on the Australian Paired Kidney Exchange Program.
If someone wants to donate an organ to someone with an incompatible blood type, the program finds another pair in the same situation to swap with.
Mr Lynne has lost 17kg to meet one of the criteria for joining the program.
