DEJECTED: Pilley crashes out of world championship

FORMER Yamba squash star Cameron Pilley's loss to a world ranked No 40 player headlined a disastrous opening day for Australian players at the 2016 PSA Men's World Squash Championship.

Egypt's Karim Ali Fathi bt beat Pilley 3-1: 13-11, 2-11, 13-11, 11-6 in 65 minutes to dump him from the most prestigious competition in the sport.

Other Australian hopes Rex Hedrick and Ryan Cuskelly also crashed out on of the competition in Cairo.

World No.58 Hedrick fell to a predictable defeat to World No.1 Mohamed ElShorbagy but World No.15 Cuskelly went down to German World No.61 Jens Schoor in a spectacular upset.

Schoor overcame a gulf in class to take out Cuskelly, the recent Hong Kong Open semi-finalist.
