Plan to manage flying fox population

COFFS Harbour City Council will start community consultation on the development of a Strategic Flying-Fox Camp Management Plan.

The Coffs Coast is home to three permanent flying-fox camps. Two of them have been listed as nationally important flying-fox camps.

Those two are the Woolgoolga Lake camp and the Toormina camp. There's also the Coffs Creek camp as well as some others that get temporarily established in other areas from time to time.

Funding granted by the State Government and additional funding from the Environmental Levy Program the Strategic Plan will allow for the development of a consistent approach to Flying-Fox management that recognises ecological values while minimising community impacts.

A community steering committee will be involved in the plan's development and review.

Expressions of interest will be invited from residents surrounding the three permanent camps in addition to targeted invitations to local interest groups early in the new year.
