COFFS Harbour City Councillor Keith Rhoades is facing a strong challenge for his other role as president of Local Government NSW.

THE NSW Local Government Association annual conference begins tomorrow at Sydney Town Hall with delegates from 152 authorities attending.

Others in the running for president include Liberal Party candidate Christine Forster, sister of newly-elected Prime Minister Tony Abbott.

NSW Labor will be represented by Councillors Leo Kelly and Jodie Harrison.

The President of LGNSW is a powerful position.

Figures from 2012 show the president is paid an honorarium of $101,000 in addition to council fees.

All travel and accommodation expenses while representing the association are also paid for.
