UPDATE 6:45 PM:

MORE details have emerged from police as they continue to investigate today's alleged carjackings. 

Around 12pm police attended an address on Aleiyah Court at Caboolture following reports of a stolen red sedan parked at a residence.

While police were at the location, two men allegedly drove the stolen vehicle away from the residence, striking a police officer who attempted to deploy a tyre deflation device at a road cordon. The male constable sustained a broken ankle and leg injury.

POLAIR 2 was above at the location and tracked the movements of the two men from the air.

The pair abandoned the vehicle before allegedly producing a firearm and stealing a hatchback on Pumicestone Road at Caboolture.

The vehicle was being driven dangerously as it travelled north to Beerwah before turning around and travelling to Morayfield.

Around 12.45pm the pair entered the carpark of a Morayfield shopping centre, before allegedly threatening occupants of a four-wheel-drive with a firearm and stealing the vehicle. They drove the vehicle through the carpark before again abandoning the vehicle and allegedly stealing a blue sedan at gunpoint.

The stolen car crashed with a vehicle at the intersection of Morayfield and Walkers roads before continuing to be driven dangerously south on the Bruce Highway, Gateway Motorway and the M1.

New South Wales Police arrested two men at Tugun around 2.30pm (Queensland time).

Investigations into the series of incidents are continuing. 

 

UPDATE 4.15pm:

CABOOLTURE Police will look to extradite two men allegedly behind today's chaotic crime spree.

Two men have been arrested by NSW Police and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station, concluding a dramatic few hours which ended after shots were allegedly fired at police by the two, armed offenders.

Caboolture's Superintendent Michael Brady this afternoon said police had been actively pursuing one of the men on an outstanding return to prison warrant, and had narrowed the suspect down to an address off Ardrossan Road, Caboolture home after being alerted over a stolen car, when the action unfolded.

One Caboolture police officer was run down in pursuit of the offender, and is currently undergoing scans in hospital, while the victims of three gunpoint carjackings carried out by the alleged offenders are all also okay.

Police reported one carjacking had taken place in Caboolture, before two more at Morayfield Shopping Centre.

The offenders then took off north, passing through Beerburrum and leading officers on a brief pursuit along Steve Irwin Way, before the pair turned around at Johnston Road, rejoining the Bruce Highway before tearing off south, past the Gold Coast.

Police stood down from engaging the alleged offenders in a road pursuit, with the stolen vehicle tracked from above with the PolAir police chopper.

News footage showed the car driving erratically at high speed, before the dramatic end.

NSW Police deployed road spikes at the Tugun bypass, bringing the stolen vehicle to a stop.

The offenders allegedly opened fire at police, allegedly firing four shots, before the pair were eventually arrested.

A NSW Police Media spokesman said there had been no shots fired by police at the alleged offenders, during the dramatic arrest.

[3:50 PM]   Police say the carjacking started at a Caboolture home with a stolen car which was driven down Pumicestone Rd.   

The Gunmen then hijacked three different cars as police chased them from Beerwah to the Gold Coast.   

Police say one of the two men involved in the incident was wanted on a warrant.   

The police officer who was run down in Caboolture is undergoing scans at hospital. All other victims are uninjured.

UPDATE: Driver wanted on return to prison warrant, shots fired at scene at NSW police. Police used spikes to stop car. One of the offenders was hit by a car at the scene. 

Carjackers travelled from Morayfield to the Beerwah and back to NSW border across almost five hours. 

UPDATE: Both lanes of Pacific Highway closed north and southbound, two male suspects in custody. Firearms have been seized.

UPDATE: Offender trying to hijack another car, 2 in custody. Gun was seen next to unmarked police car.

UPDATE: Offender involved in hijacking was seen walking up street in Beerwah area with a rifle. Someone tried to take it off him before he took off in a car which reportedly had more guns in it. Police put the call out to all officers to 'pull over and vest up.'

Police Media have confirmed there will be briefings underway with their NSW counterparts, in anticipation of the armed carjacker crossing the interstate border, as he speeds south past the Gold Coast.

UPDATE: Driver has made it to Robina, NSW police are on standby in case the driver heads to the border. 

UPDATE: Drivers along the Pacific Motorway have been urged to drive with caution, carjacker last seen driving towards the Gold Coast. Police have been chasing the driver for four hours now.

UPDATE: A baby is believed to have been in the car of a carjacking victim. The stolen car is now involved in a dramatic police chase across Brisbane. Car was last seen at Loganlea. Car was stolen from Morayfield.

UPDATE: Driver reportedly switched cars at Morayfield from blue Hyundai to blue Mitsubishi Lancer. One of the carjacking victims believed to have a baby in the car.

UPDATE: Driver has driven into restricted airspace, neither police nor media can enter until they have permission. 

The driver has been involved in at least one carjacking today, possibly more.

UPDATE: Car last seen by police chopper taking the Gateway Mtw exit, heading towards Deagon. It's believed it is the third time the offender has stolen a car. 

Driver is heading south on the Gateway. Police have issued a warning to other drivers to take care.

A POLICEMAN has been rundown during an alleged armed carjacking at Caboolture. 

It's believed the car was driven towards him as police were on the hunt for the offender. 

Police have confirmed that the officer was hit on Aleiyah St, Caboolture this afternoon. 

A helicopter has been deployed and was now monitoring the car. 

It's believed the officer received injuries to the leg, and  fractured their right arm. 

Police and ambulance crews were assisting the officer. 

The car was last seen in the Deception Bay area heading towards the Bruce Highway. 

POLICE HUNT ARMED CARJACKER

EARLIER: Road police units were forced to pull out of a pursuit of an armed carjacker, who was dangerously driving a believed to be stolen blue Hyundai sedan across the Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay areas. 

The car was seen driven erratically by an armed man at Steve Irwin Way. It was later seen heading towards Caboolture. 

Police Media have confirmed they are still tracking the vehicle via their PolAir Helicopter unit.

A Police spokesman confirmed there could be stinger deployments made as officers worked to bring a halt to the vehicle.

UPDATE: Police were seen searching in grass land for items which had been thrown from a car believed to be involved in an armed carjacking.

Earlier reports had been that the man had been armed with a rifle and had hijacked the vehicle, before being seen throwing items out of the car, as he led officers on a brief chase.

Officers had been alerted to reports of a man being seen armed with a handgun in the car.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

EARLIER: POLICE are on the hunt for a man, believed to be armed with a handgun, who has reportedly carjacked a blue Hyundai and is driving dangerously across the Coast. 

The man was last seen driving southbound on the Bruce Hwy in an attempt to evade police. 

It's believed police were forced to abandon their pursuit of the man. 

Reports indicate the man was armed with a rifle and seen speeding through traffic in the Beerwah area.
