Police find man's body in Banyo house after siege

UPDATE: 8.10pm: POLICE have reported locating the body of a man inside a house in Earnshaw Road, Banyo.

"The man's body was located by a remote camera in an upstairs room around 7.25pm," QPS posted.

"The emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act has been lifted and local residents are thanked for their patience and co-operation.

"There is no further information available at this time and police investigations are continuing."

EARLIER: HEAVILY armed Queensland Police officers have blocked off an area of a Brisbane suburb after reports a man was holding a woman and young child hostage at gunpoint.

Authorities were alerted to the Boxing Day drama in Earnshaw St, Banyo shortly after 11am.

The area was immediately placed in lockdown and an emergency situation declared.

Police have confirmed two shots have been fired.

Special Emergency Response Team officers and police negotiators are at the scene, but have failed to make contact with the man.

It is believed the man does not live at the address.

Officers have blocked off an area bounded by St Vincents, Red Hill, Earnshaw, Approach and Nudgee roads, Cannery Creek and the Banyo railway line.

People have been asked to avoid the area.
