Police find baby in unlocked car outside Tweed eatery

FAMILY and Community Services were notified after a seven-month-old girl was left in a car on Tuesday.

Tweed Police Inspector Darren Steel said they received a call from a concerned member of the public about 10am.

Insp Steel said police found the infant in a baby capsule in the rear of a car, outside a restaurant on Minjungbal Dr, Tweed Heads South.

He said the car was found to be unlocked before being opened up by police.

Insp Steel said the girl's mother then returned from the restaurant, claiming she "wasn't gone for long".
