Police find charred corpse

A GRISLY find awaited emergency and police personnel when they extinguished a burning car at the Iluka breakwall yesterday morning – a burnt corpse.

The body was found by police and members of the Iluka Rural Fire Service just after 9am.

Emergency services were alerted to the burning car by members of the nearby Coast Guard, who made the call for help.

When police arrived at the car park at Main Beach in Iluka, the four-wheel-drive was engulfed in flames.

Once the blaze was extinguished, the body was discovered and police immediately established a crime scene.

Police were releasing few details yesterday, but said the identity of the deceased was unknown.

The matter is being investigated by Coffs/Clarence police and they are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
