Man faces court over Banora Point siege

UPDATED, 11.10am: THE 33-year old man at the centre of yesterday's police operation in Banora Point will remain behind bars.

Maximillian Mazzilli appeared before Tweed Heads Court today, charged with an outstanding warrant for revocation of parole.

He entered a plea of not guilty and chose not to apply for bail.

The case was adjourned and he will appear before Bankstown Local Court on November 18.

 

UPDATED, 8.47amA man is in custody following a two-hour police operation at Banora Point yesterday.

Police attended Bione Avenue in Banora Point, south of Tweed Heads, about 3.15pm.

Police are alleging a 33-year-old man refused to leave the home as requested, and a perimeter was established.

Negotiators spoke with the man for about two hours before he surrendered into police custody without incident.

The man was arrested and taken to Tweed Heads Police Station.

He has been charged with an outstanding warrant for revocation of parole. He will be refused bail to appear in Tweed Heads Local Court today.

UPDATED, 6.41pm: Police say an "operation" in Keys Ave, Banora, has been resolved.

They will remain in the area for a number of hours though.

On Tweed Police official Facebook page, police thanked the public for their assistance.

Surrounding streets which had been closed as precaution have now reopened.

It's believed a man possibly armed had been holed up in a house, although police were unable to confirm.

They say more details will follow soon.

 

INITIAL report, 4.49pm: Police currently have a house in Keys Ave at Banora Point surrounded.

Armed police officers who appear to part of the Special Tactical Response Unit are on the scene.

Road blocks are currently in place and streets between Bione Ave and Oyster Bay Road are in lock down with nobody permitted to enter or leave.

An ambulance, fire truck and other police resources on standbye in neigbouring streets.

At this stage police are not giving updates on the situation, only to say avoid the area and stay in your homes if you live in the vicinity.
