Police on hunt for man after car stolen from good Samaritan

POLICE are searching for a man who they believe crashed a stolen car, then stole a second one when a good Samaritan came to help him.

Police suggest that at 4pm, the man -- who police describe as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander appearance -- rolled the stolen vehicle on Boonooroo Rd in Tuan, between Tin Can Bay and Hervey Bay.

When a passer-by came to his aid, the man wrestled the victim for his keys then stole that car.

He managed to travel about 15 minutes south until that car ran out of fuel.

Police suspected he could have been walking along the Cooloola Coast Rd.

He is thought to be 175cm tall and wearing black shorts.
