Police investigate fatal car crash at Chinderah

UPDATE: Monday 8.10am: There are unconfirmed reports that the victim of the crash was a Pottsville resident.

Police have not yet officially released the man's name.

 

ORIGINAL STORY: About 8.45am Sunday, a Mazda sedan was travelling south on the Pacific Motorway at Chinderah when it left the road and struck a tree.

The driver and sole occupant, a 22-year-old man, died at the scene.

Police from Tweed/Byron Local Area Command, Traffic and Highway Patrol Command and the Tweed District Rescue Squad attended the scene.

One lane of the Pacific Highway was closed for five hours while investigations took place.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner and any witnesses are urged to contact police.
