Police investigating stolen bike threatened with knives

A MOTHER and son have been arrested after questions over a missing bike turned into a near fatal stand-off with police on the NSW Central Coast.

Two officers drew their guns after they were allegedly threatened with knives and assaulted while investigating a stolen bike at a home at Seaforth late Sunday.

It will be alleged that while the officers were trying to arrest the man inside the home, his mother intervened and tried to stop them.

The man then allegedly grabbed the knife, which he had dropped on the floor and went for the officers who were forced to again draw their guns.

When a wrestle followed, the male officers was allegedly punched, kicked in the face and head and choked while the female officer was also punched.

The officers set off capsicum spray before calling for urgent back-up and retreating from the home.

When extra police arrived, the mother and son eventually surrendered.

The two constables where treated for minor injuries.

The woman was charged with assault and will front court on Thursday while her son, who was charged with using an offensive weapon and assaulting police, was refused bail.
